1. What kind of camera do I need?
Any digital SLR or 35mm SLR that will allow control of the aperture and shutter
speed will work. SLR cameras with interchangeable lenses are preferred.
2. I’m a beginner. Won’t this workshop be over my head?
Not necessarily. You will need a basic understanding of how your camera works and how to select aperture and shutter speed. Beyond
that you can pick up what you need from shooting with us in the field. Of course, the better you understand your equipment and how
to use it, the more enjoyable the workshop experience will be.
3. Will I need a lot of equipment?
Again, not necessarily.
You may do just fine with the equipment you already own. I do recommend that you have (and use) a good quality tripod. A wide angle
zoom and a telephoto zoom would be a good package to start with. We will send each registered participant an equipment checklist at
least thirty days prior to the event.
4. Do you provide transportation?
Each participant is responsible for his
or her own transportation to and from the event. As much as possible we will carpool to and from our shooting locations
5. How do
I register for an event?
Contact the
Charleston Center for Photography to Register. You will also need to make
your own hotel reservations at the location mentioned on the Center website. Make your reservations for Wednesday night through Saturday
night over the dates of the workshop.
6. How much help will I get in the field?
To a large degree this depends
on you. When we are out shooting I usually make the rounds from student to student. If I stop by and ask how you’re doing and the
answer is “fine” or “OK” I’ll keep going. If, on the other hand, you have a question or a problem then I’ll stick with you until we
get it answered or resolved. Don’t be shy! If you have a question speak up!
